Are You A Residential Well Owner? Myths You Must Know Are NOT TRUE!

02/01/2022 shannon Comments Off

Ever thought of a residential well and imagined stone-walled, dug up well with an old bucket and rope in your modern-day apartment, and laughed hysterically? Although that is how wells used to be in the rural areas. But today, thanks to engineering advancements, we have automatic wells with motors and whatnot. Despite the innovations, people are still skeptical about the water quality and the efficiency of the well as their water source. There are many more misconceptions about residential wells that need to be debunked.

Let us debunk some well water myths for residential well owners-

#1- Well Water is Unclean

Truth: Water in wells come from natural sources with no preserving chemicals mixed into it. It may taste unfamiliar because the water supply from the municipality has multiple chemical agents combined to keep it safe from contaminants and pathogens. However, when the concentration of these chemicals increases in our bodies, they cause health-related risks and sensitivities. Well water is free from impurity and being naturally occurring, it is also free from contaminants and harmful pathogens.

#2- Residential Wells Dry Up Quickly

Truth: When drilling any well, the constructors ensure they dig deep enough to reach the water table. The water table is underground water present in the aquifers. These aquifers are continuously replenished by the penetrating water from rains, rivers, and lakes. There are rare cases when residential wells dry up. If that is the case, it is primarily due to drought conditions disturbing the local water table. Underground constructions may also affect the water table.

#3- Well as a Water Source is Unreliable

Truth: Water in a well does not dry up unless there is some problem with the water table. If you face any difficulty with your residential well water systems like low yield and weak pressure, it may be due to a leak, malfunctioning of the well pump, or mineral build-up. Get your well water system regularly serviced and maintained to avoid such problems.

#4- Home Inspectors Check Well Water Quality

Truth: Regular well water testing is crucial to ensure you are drinking good-quality and safe water. However, home inspectors are not responsible for it. They only conduct visual tests and check for potential repairs in houses they wish to sell. But if you are purchasing a home that has been sitting vacant for months, it is best to get the well water quality tested by professional well drillers.

#5- Residential Wells Are a Bad Investment

Truth: The idea of getting a well drilled in your home may seem old-fashioned and a wastage of money. But, in the long run, wells are cost-effective and provide naturally occurring water throughout their lifetime. They also enhance the property value.
