How to Ensure Clean and Safe Well Water?
Most American homes opt for a water well for their daily chores over water supply from the municipal reserves. The trend caught on as municipal water contains chemicals that help preserve the water from pathogens that can be harmful to the human body over time. However, this water is also managed by the United States Environment Protection Agency (EPA), which tests the water quality being delivered to our homes. On the other hand, water from private water wells does not come under the management of EPA, making it crucial that you ensure your well water is safe and clean with well maintenance services.
Here is how you can ensure clean and safe well water at your home.
Method #1- Installing a Water Filtration System: Underground water has many minerals that may or may not be required in that amount by the human body. A water filtration system will filter out the unrequired minerals and purify the water of contaminants before it reaches your tap to make it safe for drinking and using. A water filtration system used by well drilling services may have chemical, biological, or physical processes for filtering the water.
Method #2- Using Under-the-Sink Water Filter: These water filters use the reverse osmosis process to filter the water under your sink. However, they are better than other reverse osmosis-based water filters as they do not produce any wastewater, conserving water that comes from your well. There are two types of varieties in under-the-sink water filters, simple and conventional. Your water well drilling company will prefer this filter as it provides many more benefits besides purifying the water. It also eliminates foul odor and taste and removes heavy metals and microbes from the well water.
Method #3- Adding Water Softeners: If you get hard water from your well, you cannot use it for anything. Water hardness occurs due to the presence of Calcium and Magnesium salts in it. Water softeners are an excellent way to remove the hardness as Sodium and Potassium ions replace Calcium and Magnesium ions in their salts. It is also a convenient and budget-friendly way. Water softeners can be salt-based, salt-free, dual tank, and magnetic water descaler.
Method #4- Installing a Distillation System: The distillation process involves boiling the water and letting the steam condense in another container. The condensed water is pure and free from diluted and solid contaminants. You can build a distillation system yourself or ask well drilling contractors near you to install them.
Method #5- Performing Disinfection: You can kill pathogenic microorganisms through disinfection processes. They can be either physical or chemical. The most common chemical disinfectants are ozone and chlorine, while heat, electronic radiations, and ultraviolet radiations are the most commonly used physical ones.
