How to Prepare a Well Drilling Site Adequately?
Many homeowners and landowners are increasingly getting their own wells drilled to enjoy water directly from the ground. And one significant step while digging the land is to ensure everything is well-prepared to avoid any unwanted situations. In fact, prior preparations can make the task easy for both the owners and the contractors, and get the job done sooner. It also has financial benefits for both sides.
If you are planning to get a well drilled in your land, here is how you can prepare the site adequately.
Step #1- Checking Government Regulations: Your first step when preparing to get well drilled in your land should be understanding your local laws. Every area has set regulations regarding drilling wells that help prevent mishappenings since drilling involves heavy machinery and digging deep into the earth. Your local authorities can provide you with a basic guide comprising the instructions and permits you will require.
Step #2- Creating Access Roads: Many times, there is no accessibility to the drilling site, which can be inconvenient for the contractor to get the heavy machinery and equipment to the location. Government has certain regulations regarding the distance of the well from the road to prevent traffic disturbance. If your drilling site is remote, check for official permits to continue your work. You may need to set up pumps since you will need a continuous water supply during drilling.
Step #3- Preparing the Ground: The area must be cleaned and leveled before beginning the drilling process. A lot of vegetation, especially tall trees, can reduce the work speed and increase the overall cost. Remove shrubbery, plants, and trees in the area chosen for the well. It would be best to consult a professional before cutting down everything to avoid damaging the environment. After removing the vegetation, make sure that the ground is leveled. Heavy drilling machinery requires a flat and firm base to work efficiently.
Step #4- Constructing Reserve Pits: The most common well drilling method involves pumping the water through the drilling bit as it digs inside the earth. The water often overflows bringing floating debris and drill bit pieces along with it. Your contractor must construct reserve pits to dispose of this wastewater. You can also filter this water to make it environmentally friendly and use it again.
Step #5- Constructing Debris Disposal Area: Reserve pits can help store the used water, but you still need to throw away debris and drill bit cuttings safely. Your constructor should dig the debris disposal area in the land itself for this. You can also rent a dumper if there is a lot of waste material generated during the entire process to get rid of it conveniently.
